BERLIN COMEDY SCENE
Sanja Shihora: the hilarious tri-lingual maestro of the Kookaburra Comedy Club in Berlin and an occasional surprise act at Comedy in SIN.
Jacinta Nandi: English slam poetess and comedian and one of the funniest women Paul knows. It helps that she’s English.
Ben Knight: Jacinta’s partner in the troupe My English Class. Co-creator of the film Stuart Dee.
James Harris: another member of the unstoppable My English Class empire. Also a really good poet.
Motherfuckin’ David Deery: one-man Berlin comedy empire. Knows famous rappers. Has a mustache. Loves maté.
Paula Varjack: Berlin slam scene goddess and Paul’s partner in crime in the slam comedy duo The Legend of Paul and Paula.
Kerri Mullen: author and musician seen frequently onstage as Churlish & Maudlin (& Sauer when Paul joins in).
Naomi Fearn: Improv comic, burlesque dancer, and author of the German-language comic strip Zuckerfisch.
David Cassel: strange Canadian comedy entity recently landed in Berlin. Nice jacket.
Kookaburra Comedy Club: home venue to The Supernaturals. Paul can also be seen here performing at Comedy Gone Wild.
S.I.N. (Stranded in Neverland) Bar & Practice Space: coolest little bar in Kreuzberg. American owner, Czech beer, Texas whiskey… and our favorite stand-up stage in town. Also hosts a great music night.
Comedy Sportz Berlin: formerly Laugh Olympics. Short-form improv based on audience suggestions.
Ve Magni: frequent SIN performer who somehow escaped to LA. Shares birthday with Paul and, by extension, Don Johnson.
Chance Dorland: another SIN guy now basically interning for every single TV show, radio show, and podcast in the Continental USA. And for some reason, he voted for McCain.
COMEDY RESOURCES
Maximum Fun: by far the best blog / podcast devoted to “things that are awesome”. Host Jesse Thorn is a real alt-comedy freak and knows a scary amount about old-school hip-hop. He’s also really professional.
Dead Frog: another comedy blog. News and humor.
Hipster Runoff: a guilty pleasure. Day-glo sarcasm that runs circles around Gawker and Vice and everything else.
Sidereel: Yes, a video aggregator. This is how we track the US comedy scene in Germany in lieu of Hulu.
Judy Carter: comedy coach and author. Paul got started in stand-up by reading her excellent Stand-Up Comedy: The Book.
Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre: simply the best. If you’re in NYC or LA, just go.
Comedy Cellar: Paul once saw Darryl Hannah leaning on the wall for support here. Great NYC comedy club.
WEB / TECH / MISC.
Gwen Bell: former business partner of Paul and personal branding coach to the stars. Sings a mean Whitney Houston.
The Knowledge Worker’s Survival Guide: an excellent resource for people who work at laptops all day.
Power-Up Productions: web design and branding firm in Boulder, CO.
Gerpan: Comedy in SIN’s door girl Liz has a blog! Funny expat adventures in Germany and Japan.
Hardcore History: just the best history podcast ever. Ever.
Gaping Void: cartoonist Hugh MacLeod is on a one-man mission to unite work and love, and we all wish him luck. Very inspiring guy, 4 rlz.
